The Émile Boutmy Scholarship — named after the founder of Sciences Po (est. 1872) — was created to welcome the very best international students from outside the European Union. Supported by prestigious sponsors including Chalhoub Group, Fondation Geneviève McMillan-Reba Stewart, L'Oréal, and Michel David-Weill, the scholarship awards either a total tuition fee exemption or a partial exemption to the most deserving international students at one of the world's leading political science institutions.
Master's deadlines: 18 October 2026 (1st committee) or 29 November 2026 (2nd committee) — the first is days away!

About this opportunity
The Émile Boutmy scholarship fund benefits from the generous support of its sponsors — benefactors, companies, and foundations — who are eager to allow the most deserving international students to study at Sciences Po. Private sponsors can be in direct contact with scholarship holders during official organised events.
Key features of the programme:
Merit-based — awarded on academic excellence and the type of profile sought for the programme
Linked to admission — allocated as part of the admissions process, not afterwards
Automatic renewal — renewed automatically if you continue into graduate studies at Sciences Po (eligible programmes)
Combinable with external funding — may be combined with the Eiffel Scholarship, AEFE, French government scholarships, and other external awards
First-year award — granted to students arriving at Sciences Po for their first year of studies
Financial Benefits
Undergraduate College (Bachelor's):
Total exemption OR €9,500 exemption from tuition fees
Scholarship retained during the year abroad (third year of the undergraduate programme)
Amount determined upon admission and adjusted yearly in line with tuition fee increases
Master's programmes:
€18,500 exemption from tuition fees for EACH of the two years — up to €37,000 total
Amount determined at admission; may be recalculated yearly with tuition increases
The scholarship is lost if you do not validate your academic year or if you defer your admission.
Documents Required
There is no separate scholarship file — the application happens within your Sciences Po admission application:
Sciences Po application form — with the Émile Boutmy scholarship indicated in the "Financial information" section
Language test results — attach where applicable (you have until the scholarship deadline to provide them)
Parcoursup applicants (French secondary schools): complete the online form once your application is validated on Parcoursup
Only complete files are considered. It is not possible to apply for the Émile Boutmy scholarship after admission or during your studies — if you miss the box, you miss the scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, students must be:
First-time applicants to Sciences Po
From a non-European Union state
Whose household does not file taxes within the European Union (Sciences Po considers the tax residence of the parents, not the student)
Admitted to the Undergraduate or Master's programme
How to Apply
For all Master's candidates and undergraduate applicants from foreign secondary schools:
Step 1: Apply for admission to your Sciences Po programme (Bachelor's or Master's) through the online application platform
Step 2: In the "Financial information" section of your application, indicate that you are applying for the Émile Boutmy scholarship
Step 3: Attach your language test results if applicable (due by the scholarship deadline)
Step 4: Submit before the deadline — undergraduate (foreign schools) by 13 January 2027; Master's by 18 October or 29 November 2026
Step 5: Only admitted students have their files reviewed for the Boutmy scholarship — you receive your admission decision first, then the scholarship decision
Step 6: If awarded, declare your scholarship during administrative registration (step 2: enter the exemption amount; step 5: upload your dated and signed certificate)
For undergraduate applicants from French secondary schools: contact the Admission Office via the online form once your Parcoursup application is validated.
Tip: Sciences Po strongly encourages you to accept your admission offer while waiting for the Boutmy decision — if not granted, you can still request a deferral (but you cannot reapply for Boutmy).
